Join us for the only charity rally in the world to drive to the Pyramids in Egypt. 3500 miles of circumnavigating the Mediterranean sea through deserts, mountains, and a war zone or two or just cut straight through the middle by taking the ferry to Algeria or Tunisia and onto Libya and Egypt. The first rally is pencilled in to leave London in autumn 2008 - this will be a small group of pioneers. Fancy joining?
Charity
We are going to support the work of SOS Children's Villages based in Alexandria and Cairo. You can read more about their work in Egypt here.
Routes
You've got a choice of routes around the med. The easiest is to drive through Turkey and the middle east crossing Sinai into Egypt. Things get more interesting if you take the north African routes: take the ferry from Italy into Tunisia and then drive through Libya to Egypt. Tunisia can give you Roman ruins and Star Wars sets. Libya has got more Roman ruins and the greatest oasis in Africa. Onto Egypt and you're on the home straight to the Pyramids. Alternatively, sort out visas for Algeria and you can add Spain to your route (at the moment, the Morocco - Algeria border is closed). Read more on our Route Page.
When can I sign up?
As this is the first rally, sign-up will be pretty informal. Numbers will be limited and we won't know for sure if we can get all the arrangements in place until quite near the time. The first teams are made up of anyone who can help out with organising, so if you think you can help out, get in touch and you can be on the first rally.
As far as we are aware, you need to be over 25 years of age to drive in Egypt.
What visas do I need?
This depends on the route you take. Turkey and Egypt is no problem for most people, but the middle east, Libya and Algeria can be very tricky to sort out. We'll be getting visas sorted for Libya for those travelling to Tunisia by ferry (or through Algeria...).
